Some Signature Swag

Browsing around the forums today we found some posts about signature swag and what people leave behind in caches to leave their mark.  We don’t really have anything specific to us just yet but today we ordered

250 x business cards
140 x stickers

all free, but we had to pay for postage which was about $15.10 (aus). If you would like to get your own please click here .

Here is what our cards and stickers will look like……

Our First Geo Cache – Rudder Park

Found: January 2nd 2011

2011 rolled around and as a family we where looking for a hobby, one that we could do together. We also wanted to find something that would allow us to get more exercise, along with being fun for all of us.

The final thing on our check list was to find a reason to  use our 4×4 more often, and  for the purpose they are intended for…..dropping our daughter to preschool is hardly adventurous driving.

Along came geo caching, a friend from America had mentioned it to Geo Mum  a few  months before. However Geo Mum hadn’t  been interested or even really paid it great attention, but it some how stuck in her mind and stayed there.  A few months later we began our adventure Geo Caching, we did a little research on http://www.geocaching.com before we started but really where not sure how it would go in Australia and in our region.

Living in a small country town we really didn’t hold out much hope that caches where in our area, boy where we wrong. After downloading the geo caching application from the ap store on itunes (click here) we searched for near by geo caches and  up came a list of a few in our area.

Here is a review video of the Geo Caching Iphone Application:

The first cache that came up was in fact only 5 minutes away. The cache is called Rudder park,  the GC code: GC2JWZY  for anyone wanting to look it up on http://www.geocaching.com .

Sadly little geo daughter was not with us for this first find but we made it up to her later on with 2 days of geo caching or Treasure Hunting as she calls it.

Geo Mum and Geo Dad, armed with GPS location, Iphone and a hint ….that meant nothing to us at the time headed off in search of the first cache.  A short drive and only a few minutes later we had our first cache in hand it was exciting fun.

We opened up this hidden container and inside we found a log book, a pen and some geo swag (trade items). There was no expensive or huge treasure inside, but the thrill of the hunt and just the fun we had was the best part. We traded a little Dora the explorer doll for a little yellow compass ring and the next thing we knew, we where hooked and already looking for other caches to find near by….

Here are some photos of our first cache – Rudder Park

Welcome

Welcome to TeamCassie’s Geo Caching blog, here you will find the Geo Caching  journal of  one  Australian family, the Cassie family. This is our place to share all our  fun and adventures while Geo Caching.

You will also be able to find a listing of links and hints and tips that we also found along the way that have helped add to our Geo Caching enjoyment.

This site may contain Caching spoilers, so please be aware of this when reading about our finds and hides, it is not our intent to spoil the fun for others but this site is like our own diary, so we can look back and recall what great fun we had doing different caches.

What is Geo Caching? This Youtube Video should help to answer that or visit http://www.geocaching.com for more information.
